Mimesis II 2008

Exploring techniques of mould making with plaster and silicone moulds, allowed for the reproduction of found objects and clothes. The use of unusual materials to the fashion design discipline, like latex and porcelain, and the interdisciplinary aspects of the project led to the development of a unique body of work, more related to the field of artistic research rather than fashion design itself. The use of ceramics as clothing challenged the discipline itself, this development has led to new results in clothes design: clothes that have a performative behaviour. Accidental production of clothes-sculptures was accepted as a fashion design result in its one right by accepting any experimental results. The search for unusual materials in the practice of clothing design was associated with the performative nature of some of the pieces that were developed in a mainly experimental and interdisciplinary manner.
