Lara Torres – Monochrome Feelings (2003) now in MUDE’s Permanent Collection Exhibition
We are pleased to announce that a dress from Lara Torres’ collection Monochrome Feelings (2003) has entered the long-term exhibition at MUDE – Museu do Design e da Moda, Lisbon, as of September 2025.
The exhibition Para que servem as coisas? Peças do acervo MUDE 1900–2020 (“What Are Things For? Works from the MUDE Collection 1900–2020”) presents a curatorial reading of design history through material, cultural, and critical perspectives. Rather than merely showcasing iconic design objects, the exhibition questions how and why products are conceived, communicated, perceived, and consumed.
Curated by Bárbara Coutinho, with research and curatorial assistance from Inês Correia and the MUDE research team, the exhibition establishes an open chronological dialogue between objects and historical documentation. Through these juxtapositions, the project highlights transversal issues across different periods and invites reflection on past practices and their relevance for the future.
The exhibition’s spatial design—conceived by Coletivo Warehouse—prioritises sustainable principles through the reuse of construction materials reclaimed from the museum building. This approach supports MUDE’s commitment to circular economy thinking and a critical stance on contemporary consumer culture.
As part of its annual rotation of garments, the exhibition now includes 49 pieces by 42 international and Portuguese designers, including Chanel, Christian Dior/John Galliano, Dirk Van Saene, Gucci/Tom Ford, Martin Margiela, Ossie Clark, Valentino and Versace, alongside prominent Portuguese fashion designers. Lara Torres’ Monochrome Feelings joins this renewed selection, marking its inclusion within the history of design presented in MUDE’s permanent collection.
